African Pro-poor Tourism Development Centre – Making Tourism work for Communities
Treatment Care and Support is a project currently under implementation in Kajiado County, a tourist destination in Kenya. The project is supporting People Living With HIV at community level. It is funded by Global Fund through Kenya Red Cross Society. Services offered to PLHIVs include; Psychosocial counseling, nutrition counseling and support, adherence to treatment conseling and support, HIV treatment literacy; children, family, friend and Public Disclosure support, referrals for special need, defaulter tracing. The aim of the project is to support achievement of retention to care and HIV Viral Load Suppression amongst PLHIVs. The objective of this project is to;
1. Reduce new HIV infections in the community.
2. Reduce mortality rates related to HIV/AIDS in the community.
1. 200 Community Health Volunteers trained.
2. 200 Community Health Volunteers supported with monthly stipends.
3. 400 PLHIVs receiving support services through home visits.
4. Mother To Child Transmission of HIV reduced.
5. Retention to care rate above 90%
6. HIV viral Load suppression currently improved to 89% from 78%.
7. Community members aware of HIV and SGBV issues.
8. Defaulters of ART traced back for treatment.
