African Pro-poor Tourism Development Centre – Making Tourism work for Communities
Kenyan youths comprise 75% of the total population.Unfortunately, majority of them are unemployed, marginalised due to inadequate opportunity access, inadequate youth services, lack of representation and participation within the society. Due to these challenges, most youths have succumbed to substance abuse and health conditions such as HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases as they try to survive within the harsh economic systems in the country. For this reason, our programme seeks to provide youths with opportunities where they are seen, heard, accepted and supported to reach their ordained destinies.
Our Youth Empowerment Programmes aims to achieve this by providing technical training of skills such as electrical wiring, carpentry, metal work, video editing, hair dressing, bead work, business administration, entreprenuership, computer skills, welding, Information Communication Technology and Graphic Designing.
We connect the trained youths to already established business premises where they can intern and later on be absorbed as employees after successful training experiences.
