Community Based Tourism Enterprise.

This program supports development of community owned tourism enterprises which are linked with the tourism sector establishments such as travel operators, hotels, lodges, camps, parks and reserves where tourists can engage with the community by supporting them through the utilization of their products.

The program supports the local communities to initiate and manage small and sustainable community based enterprises so as to rake benefits from the multibillion tourism industry. We sensitize, encourage and support local individuals or groups to invest in locally owned facilities that provides services such as accommodation, catering, transport, retailing of souvenirs, tour guiding and entertainment among other services to tourists.

Tourists are also encouraged to utilize community based facilities as this will contribute to reducing poverty levels by increasing the levels of employment of local people within the tourism enterprises in the marginalized areas.

The goal of the program is:

To contribute to the economic empowerment of local communities through tourism.

How We Do It:

1.By forging partnerships with public and private sectors in tourism.

2.Through resource mobilization from the tourism sector to support community based tourism enterprises.

3.Through sensitization of the local community on tourism, and how it can be used as a tool in their social and economic development.

4. Through sensitization of local communities on the sustainable utilization of natural resources for tourism, to continue benefiting them and future generations.

5. By supporting local communities with the establishment of community owned tourism resource centres with qualified guides.

6. By supporting local communities with the establishment of community owned curio shop centres where tourists can purchase curios.

7. By supporting local communities to establish high class and organized cultural centres with local content, for tourists.

8. By establishing Eco-tourism projects for local communities such as Beekeeping, Nature Walks, Bird Watching, Botany Gardens and Community Guiding.

9. By establishing food security for tourism Enterprises which produce and supply agricultural products to the tourism sector.
