African Pro-poor Tourism Development Centre – Making Tourism work for Communities
This is a responsible tourism program which seeks to support and maximize the benefits of tourism on economic, environmental and social aspects of the local communities and destinations.
The program aims at making tourism destinations in Kenya, better places for the local people to live in and better places for both the local and foreign tourists to visit more often. The program engages and
encourages tour operators, hoteliers, governments, local people and tourists to take responsibility and engage in activities that make tourism more sustainable and beneficial.
The goal of the program is:
1. Through partnerships with government and private sector.
2. Resource mobilization to implement program activities.
3. Enhancement of employment for locals in the tourism sector.
4. Supporting environmental conservation through tourism.
5. Supporting educational development through tourism.
6. Wildlife conservation through tourism
7. Supporting community health development through tourism.
8. Implementing volunteer projects for tourists in the travel destinations.
