African Pro-poor Tourism Development Centre – Making Tourism work for Communities

CHILD LABOUR & SEXUAL ABUSE PREVENTION IN TOURISM

Our program is dedicated to safeguarding children from sexual and labor exploitation within the tourism industry. We conduct comprehensive sensitization and awareness campaigns to educate stakeholders about existing policies and guidelines designed to prevent abuse by travelers and tourism service providers. These initiatives target a wide range of participants, including tourism industry professionals, community-based tourism organizations, and travelers themselves. By raising awareness and promoting responsible practices, we aim to create a protective environment for children in tourism destinations.

A key focus of our program is discouraging child sexual abuse and the employment of minors in the tourism sector. We work closely with local authorities, tourism businesses, and community leaders to implement and enforce child protection measures. Our efforts include providing training on identifying and reporting potential abuse, promoting ethical business practices, and encouraging the adoption of child protection policies across the industry. Through these concerted efforts, we strive to foster a tourism environment that respects and protects the rights and well-being of children, ensuring that tourism contributes positively to local communities without exploiting their most vulnerable members.
