Climate Change Action

Climate Change Action.

Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. Burning fossil fuels generates greenhouse gas emissions that acts like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun’s heat and raising temperatures. Examples of greenhouse gas emissions that are causing climate change include carbon dioxide and methane. These come from using gasoline for driving a car or coal for heating a building. Clearing land and forests through burning  also releases carbon dioxide. Landfills for garbage are a major source of methane emissions.

The increase in the emission of Green House Gases from manufacturing, travel, transportation, Agriculture and Power Generation industry, in the environment worldwide has resulted in changes to extreme climatic and weather conditions that include flooding and drought. As a result of climate change many individuals especially in the African countries including Kenya have already lost their lives, their homes and their livelihoods. Climate-related damage is happening at a scale that the humanitarian community and people on the front lines cannot cope with.

Climate Change Action program seeks to tackle effects of climate change amongst the vulnerable communities, adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. The program seeks to enhance resilience to the effects of climate change felt by local communities which ranges from; high atmospheric temperatures, drought, floods, desertification, food insecurity, loss of livestock, wildfires and reduced community based tourism,

The program objectives are:

1. Reduce atmospheric temperatures from 0.8’C annually to less than 0.3’C

2. Reduce effects of climate change through adaptability and resilience projects.

How We Do It.

In partnership with the government, local communities, donors, foundations and corporates, we seek to address effects of climate change by enhancing the adaptability capacity of the vulnerable populations.

Our interventions include:

1. Awareness creation on climate change.

2. Working on vegetation cover improvement to cool down the high  temperatures and combat desertification.

3. Implementation of Smart Agriculture-irrigation projects targeting to benefit vulnerable and marginalized communities.

4. Supporting utilization of Green energy at household levels.
